Frequently asked questions

  • Is it not too cold to go for a river walk during the winter months?
With an average annual temperature of 21º C and over 320 days of sun per year in Benahavís, it is possible to do canyoning almost all year round. There are only a few colder and rainy weeks where we don't do tours. In the cooler months, we provide wetsuits to ensure your comfort and warmth during the tours. Additionally, we try to only schedule tours when the weather is expected to be favorable. Since there is a lower demand for canyoning during these months, we schedule tours based on request. So please feel free to contact us and we will try to find a suitable day for you. The weather is always unpredictable, and if it turns out that the weather on the day of your scheduled tour is not pleasant enough for the tour to take place, we will make every effort to reschedule. If the new option doesn't suit you, we will cancel the tour and you will receive a full refund.
  • Is canyoning the same as the Benahavís River Walk?
Yes, the Benahavís River Walk is a commonly used term to refer to the canyoning area in Benahavís, a small town just above Marbella. The term canyoning refers to an outdoor activity that involves navigating a canyon by a combination of walking, climbing, jumping, rappelling, and swimming.
  • How long is the Benahavís River Walk trail?
The trail is about 2.4 km long and takes 2 to 3 hours to complete. The duration depends on the pace of the group and the water conditions.
  • Is the Benahavís River Walk safe?
The Benahavís River Walk is classified as level 1 canyoning, which is the lowest level. It is an easy and safe trail, very suitable for beginners. It is however important that you are able to swim. We prioritize your safety and take all necessary precautions to ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable experience. Our guides are licensed and experienced in leading tours.
  • What is the minimum age requirement for participants?
We maintain a minimum age of 8 years old for participants, as younger children may find the activity challenging and have difficulties with keeping up with the speed of the group. While we generally adhere to this age guideline, we recognize some younger children might be well-equipped for the experience. If your child can confidently traverse rocky terrains and swim independently, even if slightly below our age recommendation, please reach out to us via WhatsApp or email. We're open to considering exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
  • Are there any medical conditions that would prevent me from participating?
Participants must be mobile and able to manoeuvre themselves through rocky areas while using their hands and feet. Besides this, participants need to be able to swim independently. It is important to inform us prior to the activity of any relevant medical conditions that might affect the tour. Please note that participating in our tours is always at your own risk.
  • Why are you cheaper than other tour agencies?
We can keep our prices lower because we work more efficiently and only offer wetsuits in the low season. This helps us to keep costs low and pass the savings on to our customers. There is no major difference between our tours and the tours of other tour agencies. We provide the same safety equipment and we follow exactly the same route in the canyon. The only difference is that we do not offer wetsuits throughout the whole season. These are not mandatory for the activities we offer and we decided not to use these based on the feedback of our customers. The water temperature is high enough for a pleasant experience without a wetsuit and this makes our tours more comfortable and enjoyable during the heat.
  • What should I wear for canyoning?
It's best to wear swimwear or sportswear for the activity. During cooler months, our guide may offer a wetsuit to wear over your attire. While we recommend wearing your own trainers, we also provide water shoes at no extra cost. All other essential equipment for the hike will be provided by us.
  • Do you use wetsuits?
In the high season, we don't provide wetsuits since the water temperature is consistently warm, ensuring a comfortable experience without the need for one. However, during the cooler months between October and June, wetsuits are available for our participants. We recommend following the guide's advice on whether or not to wear one, based on daily weather conditions and the time of year. We do provide wetsuits for children under 12 throughout the full season.
  • Do you offer transport to the area?
At this time, we do not offer transportation services. We recommend you to rent a car or use a taxi service such as Uber or Bolt to get to the meeting point. There is no public transport in the area.
  • Can I take photos during the tour?
The guide always carries a phone and will take photos during the tour. These will be sent to you via email afterwards. Additionally, if you have a waterproof case, you're welcome to bring your own phone to capture moments. However, please ensure that taking photos doesn't cause you to lag behind, as it's essential to keep up with the pace of the group.
  • Is there free parking available at the meeting point?
The meeting point is at a spacious, public parking space nearby the canyon. Please be aware that the area is unguarded, so it's advisable not to leave any valuables in sight in your vehicle. For added security, the guide can carry your car keys in a waterproof tube during the tour.
  • What is the maximum number of people that can participate in a tour?
The maximum number of participants per tour with one guide is 15. However, we can accommodate larger groups by providing multiple guides. If you would like to make a booking for a large group, feel free to contact us for the possibilities.
  • Can I book for a big group?
There is space for a maximum of 15 people per tour. However, if you are with a larger group, you can always contact us for the possibilities so we can see if we can arrange a special tour with two guides to be able to accommodate a larger group. For this reason, we are unable to offer group discounts as the costs associated with larger groups also increase. It's worth noting that our prices are the most competitive among all tour agencies operating in the same canyon.
  • Do you offer group discounts?
Unfortunately, we do not offer group discounts as our costs rise with increasing group size. However, it's worth noting that our prices are the most competitive among all tour agencies operating in the same canyon.
  • In which months can I book a canyoning tour?
With an average annual temperature of 21º C and over 320 days of sun per year in Benahavís, it is possible to do canyoning almost all year round. There are only a few colder and rainy weeks where we don't do tours. In the cooler months we provide wetsuits to ensure your comfort. Rest assured, we only conduct tours when conditions promise an enjoyable experience, so you don't have to be concerned about it being too warm or cold. The weather is always unpredictable, and if it turns out that the weather on the day of your scheduled tour is not pleasant enough for the tour to take place, we will make every effort to reschedule. If the new option doesn't suit you, we will cancel the tour and you will receive a full refund.
  • Can the Guadalmina river dry out or can the water level be too low for canyoning?
No, the Guadalmina river never dries out. There can be a difference of just a few centimeters in water level throughout the season, but this does not affect the activity. Towards the end of the summer, when the water levels are at their lowest, it’s actually the best time for canyoning, since the water temperature will be the most pleasant.
  • What happens if the weather is bad on the day of the tour?
In case of adverse weather conditions on the day of the activity, we might have to cancel the tour due to safety reasons. However, you will be fully refunded and we will make every effort to reschedule, so that you may still have the opportunity to enjoy the experience.

If you cancel within 48 hours of the tour or show up late, no refund or rescheduling will be provided. Please note that we cannot make exceptions to these rules, regardless of the reason for cancellation or tardiness. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
