Best Things To Do and See in The Port of Estepona

The port of Estepona is a spot that feels like the soul and heart of the Mediterranean. It has all the perks from a modern harbour, and it still hangs onto that old-school Spanish appeal.

People usually picture Marbella’s elegance or Málaga’s lively vibe when they think of the sunny Costa del Sol. But just a short drive away, you’ll find the port of Estepona, a spot that genuinely feels like the soul and heart of the Mediterranean. It has all the perks you’d expect from a modern harbour, but somehow, it still hangs onto that old-school Spanish vibe that has almost disappeared from other coastal towns.

Whether you’ve lived here for years or you’re only here for a short stay, Estepona Port is where everything happens: food, fun, and a bit of adventure. In this blog, we will explore what truly makes it stand out, from the gentle sway of boat masts in the salty breeze to the spirited Sunday activities that bring everyone together.

The wonderful history of the Estepona Port

The Estepona Port didn’t always look like the lively, stylish spot you see today. If you look back far enough, all you would find was a small, close fishing community working the coastline. These folks hauled in their catch from the Mediterranean for generations, this dock was their lifeline, and their lives pretty much revolved around it.

Things started changing in the late 1970s. Suddenly, Estepona wasn’t just for fishermen; it was becoming a place tourists wanted to be. That’s when the idea for the Puerto Deportivo Estepona, a marina that would welcome both local boats and international visitors, was born. As construction moved forward, the port transformed.

This wasn’t just about upgrading the docks. The entire town started to shift, pulling in new faces who fell for Estepona’s sunny weather and striking Mediterranean design. The port became more than simply somewhere to tie up your boat, it started shaping Estepona’s identity and social scene.

Now, things are lively once more. Instead of fading into the background like some coastal marinas, Estepona Port has embraced change. Thanks to the town’s big “Garden of the Costa del Sol” push, the area looks fresher, greener, and more modern. Investments in the boulevards and facilities have turned the port into a destination, mixing that old fishing soul with a sense of innovation and luxury.

The Estepona Port Market, a Sunday tradition

Sunday at the Estepona Port Market is far from just a typical morning, it’s an entire experience in itself. From 09:00 to 14:00 the port wakes up and gets loud, full of vibrant life as people come from all over the region.

You can dig through stacks of handmade leather bags, sift through trays of boho jewellery, spot unique ceramics, or stumble across that perfect summer dress. If you want a souvenir that’s not your typical fridge magnet, this is where you’ll find it. Vendors shout out their deals, friends laugh over their morning coffees, and the whole place feels alive, long before the midday sun starts making everyone hot.

Diverse dining at Puerto Deportivo Estepona

Food lovers, pay attention, Puerto Deportivo Estepona is your key to a world of flavour. The place is packed with restaurants from all over the globe, so you’re not stuck eating the same thing day after day.

Craving some old-school pub vibes? Healy’s Irish Pub has you covered. Locals swear by it for its friendly buzz, perfect pints, and dishes that taste just like home. If a big game’s on, this is where you want to be.

However, if you’re looking for something with a little more wasabi. Zoro Sushi brings serious Japanese flair, rolling up fresh sashimi and sushi that’s as good as anything pulled straight from the sea. Or, if you’re dreaming of Italy, get yourself to Aguarina. Picture authentic pasta and wood-fired pizza, all while you watch the yachts drift by.

What really sets Estepona’s port apart is just how much it packs into one spot. Whether you’re grabbing a few quick drinks or preparing for a lively dinner by the water, there’s a table, and a flavour waiting for you.

Adventure and relaxation on the waters of the Estepona Port

Honestly, you haven’t truly experienced Estepona unless you spend time on the water. The marina isn’t just for admiring boats, it’s where the action starts. There are tons of things to do for everyone, we have listed a few things below:

Look for dolphins near Marina de Estepona

Dolphin tours are a big deal here. The water is filled with colourful pods, and watching dolphins jump beside your boat feels a bit magical. Kids and grown-ups love it, there’s nothing wrong about getting excited.

Go for a crazy thrill at the Estepona Port

If you’re after a real thrill, go parasailing. Picture yourself soaring above the coast with the Rock of Gibraltar in the distance, maybe even catching a glimpse of Africa if the weather’s clear. It’s really wild, and you won’t forget it.

Relaxing at sea by the Port of Estepona

Or maybe you like doing things your own way. Just rent a boat, licence is optional, and drift off for a swim where it’s just you and the sea, complete freedom.

Stay on land at the Marina de Estepona

If you’d rather stay dry while still having that salty air, rent a bike near the port. The Paseo Marítimo was recently revamped, and it’s perfect for cycling. Cruise along from the marina, through town, and past the crowds. All the while, you’ll have the Mediterranean breeze in your face, you can’t beat that.

Faro de Estepona: an outstanding landmark

Faro de Estepona is more than a lighthouse, it is a true landmark. You can't walk by the harbour and skip it. This old stone guardian has watched over the coast since the 1800s, and its sturdy tower and red-tiled hat make it impossible to miss. People enjoy taking pictures here, and honestly, it’s easy to see why.

Faro de Estepona is a kind of checkpoint for walkers, and when you get close, the harbour totally opens up. The view? Amazing, especially at sunset. The sky transforms into a burst of pink and orange, and the sailboats look sharp and dark against all that colour. Somehow, this place ties everything together, the elegant new restaurants and bars at the port on one side, and, on the other, the town’s old-school sailor roots.

Where to park near the Port of Estepona

Looking for a spot to park near the Port of Estepona? If you’re driving in for a bite to eat or a day of shopping, finding a place for your car can get tricky, Estepona is pretty big after all. Don’t stress though, here are some solid and free parking options that’ll make your visit a lot easier:

Parking at the Bull Arena

Aparcamiento Plaza de Toros is a free parking area near the Bull Arena. While it’s a bit more in the centre, after a brisk 5-minute walk you’re at the port of Estepona. So if you don’t object to a bit of walking, this is a great spot.

Gravel parking area right next to the Estepona Port

This Aparcamiento is a gravel parking area that is perfect if you want to park directly next to the Estepona port. It’s on the west side of the port, and since the Faro de Estepona is on the east side (a 10-minute walk), you would have to walk more if you want to see everything.

Free street parking on the Port of Estepona (limited availability)

The streets that are directly situated on the Port of Estepona have a lot of parking spaces, but be quick, because these fill up very fast. Try Avenida Luis Braille or Avenida Virgen del Puerto both stretch from the east to the west side of the port. While finding a spot here is going to be difficult, if there is a space, don’t hesitate to take it.

How to get to the Estepona Port without a car

If you’re going to Estepona from Marbella and don’t have a car available, the public transport is your best option. From the Bus Station in Marbella you take the red bus route nr. 611. Then you get out at the Estepona Terminal stop, and you take the red line E-1 and get out at the stop Puerta del Mar. Lastly it’s a short 4-minute walk to the Port of Estepona. While it’s a bit more hassle, and it takes some more time, it will save you some money in the end.
